Book Review - Dogs Don’t Bite

Dogs Don’t Bite When a Growl Will Do
by, Matt Weinstein and Luke Barber

What your dog can teach you about living a happy life

This just happens to be a book I just read, I’m not being compensated or anything for this review.

As a Self-improvement book, this book doesn’t really pack a punch, but it is a very enjoyable read. Of course, that might be because I love dogs and could relate to most of the stories written in the book. I came away from the book with one basic maxim that I’ll hopefully remember and use to improve myself, and that is, I choose my own attitude. My favorite advice is that dogs stay happy; they get disappointed and then get over it. Humans, on the other hand, seem to stay disappointed with moments of happiness. I think that has a lot to do with my overall, general attitude. The book has a lot to say about how dogs seem to choose to be happy and live in the moment. That’s great advice for everybody, especially if you’re one, like me, who seems to let the environment and situation get to you.

My favorite “doggy lessons” (there are 67 in all)

Lesson 1 - Dogs are Happy
This is the choice I was talking about above. We make the choice whether we are happy or not, and circumstances do not have to be perfect for us to be happy. It’s all in the mindset, but unfortunately, that might be easier said then done.

Lesson 6 - Dogs Aren’t Shy About Saying Hello
Very humorous and thought-provoking thought on what if we acted more like dogs when it came to friends and/or strangers.

Lesson 12 - Dogs Rejoice in Small Pleasures
I think we all should take pleasure in anything that we are fortunate enough to get.

All in all, this book was an enjoyable book I would recommend. The pictures of dogs inside the book will be enough for most dog lovers, and the stories were very interesting. I don’t think there are any profound, life-altering messages in there, but there’s a possibility you might be struck by something. Either way, I encourage you to pick it up.
