Fitness Goal!

I think I’m going to start training for this small triathlon that’s here in town in August. It’s called a sprint triathlon, so every leg of the race is smaller than a normal triathlon. Of course, I won’t be racing, I will be just trying to finish without stopping (or collapsing). The legs are .25 swim in the river, a 8.2 mile bike ride, and a 2 mile run. I’ve started swimming at the Y here, and I’m up to 4 straight laps before I need rest. Unfortunately, .25 miles is like 18 laps plus the fact that it will be a harder swim. I’m guessing I will need to be able to go 25 straight laps without stopping in the pool to be able to do the .25 mile swim. The bike I’m not worried about, because I can do the 8.2 miles now (slowly, of course). I’ll just want to be able to do it fast and not expend all my energy because I will need it for the run. The 2 mile run will take some work. Right now, I’m about at .25 mile run, so I will have to increase that as well.
Then, at the end, I will have to put all of these legs together. I’m sort of starting a little bit late, as the race is just in August, but I’m hoping a close date will keep my motivated to keep training. I’m going to try to update this blog with my progress as much as possible. I’m going to go swim after work today. I think starting in a couple of weeks, I’m going to have to pull some two-a-days or something if I truly want to be ready. Of course, I’ve never done anything like a triathlon, so I’m going to have to look into it a little more. I’ve got a buddy who has done a couple of them, so I’m going to see if he can mentor me a little bit.
But with me luck. Putting it out here is my start. now I just have to keep making those steps towards my goal!

  1. Congrats on planning a fitness goal. I think financial and physical health can (and should) go hand in hand. It’s all about starting slowly, taking the next step, and maintaining discipline.

    Good luck!
